In November 1677, the architect Christopher Wren was one of the nine witnesses to the replication of Leeuwenhoek's observations, as noted in Birch's History. He was president of the Royal Society from 1680 until 1682.

In 1683, Leeuwenhoek addressed two letters to Wren that discussed ovaries and sperm.

Wren was born four days after Leeuwenhoek in 1632 and died six months before he did in 1723.
