Letter 264 L-447 of 20 April 1706 to the Royal Society

Mr. Bidloo … had the kindness to send me on the 12th of March two disputes in the name of Pieter Evertse, from which I was told some two days later that the woman whose intestine it was had been punished by hanging, and that in her lifetime she had had the falling sickness.

In the said disputes I saw three different figures of the structure of the said intestine, illustrated through the magnifying glass, and since these figures do not correspond to my observations, I took the liberty to order some small pieces of the said intestine to be illustrated such as they stood before magnifying glasses, trusting that this should not be taken ill of me.
